A
New “Green” Movement
A
new trend in the environmentalist or “green”
movement is to focus on improving IAQ. Some contractors
specifically offer to build homes with only “green”
materials that minimize VOC
off-gassing and are available locally to reduce the social
costs associated with transportation (such as air pollution).
Some contractors view the building of homes with good IAQ
as an investment, believing that these homes will command
a higher price. There are several certification programs
in existence that take IAQ into account when deciding how
environmentally friendly a building is. The most well known
of these is probably LEED,
the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green
Building Rating System. |
